International Prisoner Advocates acknowledge Journalist' support to Schapelle Corby
19 January 2006

Foreign Prisoner Support Service would like to acknowledge Australian Journalist Tony Wilson of the Gold Coast Bulletin for his consistent, ongoing dedication to Schapelle Corby and her family. Tony Wilson has been relentless in reporting every aspect of the story from the moment this young Australian was arrested in the Denpassar Airport in October 2004. Tony Wilson has shown the type of compassion that few journalists allow themselves to show in these complex cases.

Tony Wilson is in our view, a journalist with courage and one who has truly reported the humanitarian aspects of the Corby case in a most remarkable way. He has bravely stepped inside the shoes, albeit briefly, of those of us [former prisoners] who know first hand, the agony and despair of sheer hopelessness. He has gained an empathy that few 'outsiders' could gain without first enduring the pain of internment in a foreign prison. He has come to understand the true agony of a family's nightmare and what the struggle for freedom means to those who have lost their freedom.

One should never forget, that a persons' internment in a foreign prison truly does affect the lives of so many people and not just their immediate family and friends.
