TO: SBS - Dateline Team
Re: Hmong - Apocalypse Now (Dateline on 19/10/2005)
I like to congratulate the SBS Dateline Team, especially Nick Lazaredes, to produce and broadcast the Hmong jungle in Laos.
The plight of the Hmong in the jungle of Laos is one issue that the world community, including Australia, have turned a blind eye to. There is now enough and even mounting evidence that the Lao Communist government has clearly hunted down these people for the last 30 years.
Countless representations have been made to the UN and various western governments, including our very own Australian Government but so far no western government has made any move to stop the killing in the jungle of Laos. Your story has now added to the worldwide publicity of this killing. This is fact, despite the denial from the Lao communist government.
I, on behalf of the Hmong Advocacy International Service (HAIS) and as an Oz- Hmong, like to thank you for the bold move to show that documentary on SBS.
SBS has done a great service to humanity by showing this documentary.
As Australia being the top 5 largest investors in Laos, I like to encourage the Australian people to be interested in this issue. The jungle people issue is important for the peace and stability in Laos and it is in the Australia’s interest to ensure our interest in Laos.
I like to encourage our fellow Australians who have concern in this issue to communicate with Canberra because, Australia, as a country that is renown for our humanitarian standing, could initiate a program, in conjunction with the UN and other western government, to save the jungle people.
If any one interested to assist in this issue, please contact my organisation at:
Once again… to the SBS - Dateline Team - Congratulation and well done for a super documentary.
Yours Sincerely,
Pao
